NIT LAUS 09 Barcelona
On May 19, 2009 the 39th edition of NIT LAUS place took place in Barcelona. Every year, the ADG-FAD organizes international awards to projects in the field of audiovisual and graphic communications and graphic design. This year the Museo de Arte Contempornáneo in Barcelona (MACBA) was chosen as the location for this prestigious event. LIND interiorisme (Amsterdam/Barcelona) was hired to design the interior.
The interior space needed to serve three functions. In the bare space of the MACBA they needed to first create a pleasant ambiance where the 700 guests would feel welcome and comfortable to sit, relax, and enjoy a drink. Next was the official = awards ceremony where guests were seated around the existing stage. As the evening advanced, the setting changed into a place for dancing. This space had to be as good as empty. This meant that the interior and especially the (500) seats should be easily portable.
Based on the theme of minimalism and the architecture of the MACBA, the white FestivalChair was chosen for the seating. These fit perfectly into the setting of the white MACBA, and allowed the interior in a short time to transform into different spheres. The FestivalChariswere particularly suited to strengthen the impact of the lighting design and projections. All FestivalChairs were numbered as a limited edition artwork. Afterwards, many of the FestivalChairs were taken home by guests as a souvenir of the evening.
